NEW resource
Child Safe Standards - implementation resource for churches
The Safe Ministry team has developed the Child Safe Standards – implementation resource for churches. The resource is intended to support churches to implement the Child Safe Standards and includes examples of key strategies that can be used to implement each Standard.
The resource is available on the Safe Ministry website here.
What are the Child Safe Standards?
The 10 Child Safe Standards are a principle-based framework to help organisations working with children to develop strategies and create a culture that keeps children safe and protects them from harm.
What are the church's legal obligations?
Did you know Anglican churches are required under the Children’s Guardian Act 2019 to demonstrate how they are implementing the Child Safe Standards?
The Children's Guardian can take action to ensure organisations (including churches) comply with the Child Safe Standards. Whilst their approach focuses on capability building and support, this can include monitoring visits, conducting investigations, and issuing of compliance notices and penalties.
I would be keen to hear your feedback about how your church is implementing the Child Safe Standards. Send me an email ros@safeministry.org.au

NSW Working with Children Week: Celebrating and supporting the people who help keep our children safe.
NSW celebrates Working with Children Week in recognition of more than 1.9 million people who contribute to the lives of the state’s children in education, sports, arts and community organisations.
Working with Children Week 2024 is 17–23 June.
Take the opportunity to say Thank you during Working with Children Week to all the volunteers in our churches who give their time to lead in our children’s and youth ministries. It is also a great opportunity to highlight how they help to keep our children safe every week.

Safe Ministry Consultations
Would you like to improve safe ministry practices in your church in 2024?
Then participate in a Safe Ministry Parish Consultation.
A Safe Ministry Parish consultation provides an opportunity to obtain feedback about your church’s safe ministry practices and receive recommendations for making improvements as part of your church’s continuous improvement process.
Since 2022 under the NSW Child Safe Scheme churches are required to implement the 10 Child Safe Standards. A Parish consultation can assist your church to: - Highlight where your church is already meeting the Standards - Bring to light gaps in implementation and develop a plan for continuous improvement Additionally the consultation will review compliance with the Safe Ministry to Children Ordinance 2020.
What’s involved? + Completing an online Child Safe Standards Self-Assessment tool + Meeting with the Parish Consultant and relevant staff in your church + Receive a Report which includes recommendations for improving Safe Ministry practices.
