October 2020 News

Dear reader,
Welcome to the October 2020 SMR news - especially if it's your first as Safe Ministry Rep.

This is very brief update to draw your attention to an urgent situation with WWCC renewals

WWCC Renewals - COVID extension ends

In late March the OCG (Office of the Children's Guardian) automatically extended by 6 months the WWCC expiry date for all those expiring from late March to late September. This was to assist during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic

That period has now ended - on September 26th - which means that all those people who were automatically granted the extension now need to renew their WWCC urgently (unless they already done so recently).
This is likely to catch quite a lot of people off guard, so I would urge you to run a report on your Safe Ministry Records and check who now has expired WWCC numbers, and then contact them to remind them to renew ASAP

It is very important that those people stand down from any children's ministry until they renew their WWCC. Failure to do that puts them and your church at risk of a substantial fine (>$5,000)

You can read the OCG news article to confirm the end of the automatic extension.

You might also remind people that the OCG now also requires them to bring 100 points of ID when they renew their WWCC at a Sefrvices NSW office.
